    Description

This listing is for a 1992 D ANACS AU58 FS-901 Close AM Transitional Reverse. There are several different types of Lincoln Cents with both Close AM and Wide AM reverses. It is common to confuse those with the mega rare 1992 P and 1992 D Cents. Unlike the other 1988-2000's were proof/business strike dies were used, the 92's are a transitional reverse.
In 1992 both Business and proof strike cents used the Wide AM die, and in 1993 a new business strike reverse die was to be used (with the proof die keeping the same Wide AM design). This new die for 1993 and beyond had A and M in America practically touching, and a slight change to the style of the letters in the FG initials (most notably on the G). By some error both P and D mints apparently used the new 1993 dies by mistake to strike an unknown number of 1992 cents with the 1993 reverse. Only a very small number of these have ever been found despite an intensive search driven by some very high premiums for this popular variety.
The coin itself is a lightly circulated brown example with no problems. The surfaces are clean and original with no impairments. Please see the pics for more details. Thanks for looking!
