Description
This signed Churchill Ettinger etching print, "Planning the Campaign," depicts a flecked-coat belton English Setter dog, with a hunter in the background. The original 1936 etching is included in the collections of the Carnegie Museum of Art in Pittsburgh, PA, which can be seen online.Unfortunately, this had been mounted on acidic material with unforgiving glue and had to be removed and cut down to salvage it. It is now deeply age-toned.
Currently, it measures 10.5" x 8". On the back of its frame was mounted the descriptive label shown in the last photo here, "guaranteed an original by the Associated American Artists, Inc."
I am sure a skilled art framer could mount this properly to display the noble stance of its canine subject!
Churchill Ettinger was born in Haworth, NJ in 1903, and later lived and died (1984) in Weston, VT.
