Description
You are bidding on a large, very rare original antique engraving from an 1870s French illustrated journal.It depicts a rare view of an original Llewellin setter (called a "Laverack setter" in the caption, after the man who co-founded the breed). Beautiful artistry to the engraving. Extra large size. To the bottom right is the pheasant she has just detected. She is named as Lucy, of the Chasse Illustre Kennel in France.

Setter is a very specific, pure strain of "English Setter with bloodlines tracing back to the breeding program of nineteenth century sportsman R. L. Purcell

. Llewellin and Edward Laverack played a key role in the development of the breed.
It is very large (folio size), measuring approximately 10.5 x 14.5 inches (26.5 x 36.5 cm). The picture fills most of it, with a French caption below and text surrounding it.
The page is in excellent condition for its age.
