Original, Authentic script of the GREAT CLASSIC MOVIE "Casablanca" ONE OF THE GREATEST MOVIES OF ALL TIME!!!!!!!!;SIGNED BY HUMPHREY BOGART(one of the earliest scripts, as the movie was made the script was revised many, many times with the pencil autograph in the upper right corner "Humphrey Bogart"; there is a certificate of authenticity that this is the authentic signature of Humphrey Bogart, but it states that "the script is "SAID TO BE" from the TV remake of Casablanca" (this is wrong, it is the original movie, based on my research): (1) Bogart died in 1957, so it could not be the 1983 TV remake (he was dead and could not autograph the script); and for the 1955 TV remake the TV script changed the name of the leading role from "Rick Blaine"(which was his name in the 1942 movie Casablanca to "Rick Jason"; and the script which is for sale only refers to "Rick Blaine"; (2) the authentication is only as to Bogart's signature, not as to the movie, they were told it is from the TV remake and this is wrong; (3) the 1955 TV remake called the café "Club American" and in the script for sale on Ebay the script only refers to "Rick's Café" throughout the script ("Rick's Café" is the name used in the movie); FOR THESE REASONS AND OTHERS THIS SCRIPT CANNOT BE THE 1955 TV REMAKE BUT HAS TO BE THE ORIGINAL 1942 CASABLANCA MOVIE SCRIPT (4) this is the "Jenny" cast ("Jenny Delaney" is an American prostitute in this script, in the movie she is Ilsa Lund (played by Ingrid Bergman); similar plot but different (Casablanca was revised many times); (5) bought at a Regency Superior Auction October 2004 Lot 2302; A VERY IMPORTANT PIECE OF HOLLYWOOD HISTORY; THIS IS VERY LIKELY THE EARLIEST SURVIVING SCRIPT FOR THE MOVIE CASABLANCA AND IT IS AUTOGRAPHED BY HUMPHRY BOGART!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!Casablanca (and the Maltese Falcon) are what made Bogart famous. The condition is very good, except for a few tears to the facing page, total of 54 pages, broken into: Teaser (page 2); Act One page 5; Act Two page 20; Act Three page 35; Act Four page 44; Tag page 53. Fascinating piece of important American culture: Here Jenny leaves in a bus going to Egypt, not on an airplane; Jenny is an American prostitute; FASCINATING TO SEE HOW THE SCRIPT WAS WRITTEN AND CHANGED MANY TIMES. THIS BELONGS IN A MUSEUM!!!!!!!!!!!The leading book on the movie is "The Making of Casablanca" by Aljean Harmetz , 1992, 2002; c. 400 pages; Chapter 3, "Writing Casablanca: A Survival of the Fittest Script" pp.35-60 goes into great detail how the script was written:; the movie is based on the play, "Everybody Comes to Rick's" by Murray Burnett c. 1940; the US entered WWII December 7, 1941; Hal Wallis bought the rights to the play December 28, 1941 (see page 39); the first movie script was written by Wally Kline and Aeneas MacKenzie (which was lost)(see page 39); Humphrey Bogart was cast in the role of Rick Blaine circa February 15, 1942 (before a word for the second script by Philip and Julius Epstein was written (see page 46); the Epstein script was ready circa March 30 1942 (66 pages very similar to the beginning of the final movie)(page46)(spinning globe, refugees at outset); the EBAY script for sale starts with Humphrey Bogart (Rick Blaine) on page one (so it is not the Epstein script)(and it is not the Howard Koch script who was assigned to finish writing the movie script ; in April 1942); but the script for sale on Ebay refers repeatedly to Rick Blaine's girlfriend in Paris as "Ilse Lund" (See EBAY CASABLANCA SCRIPT page 52 "Jenny: "Would Ilse Lund have given you the code?"; EBAY SCRIPT page 46 "Jenny [to Rick Blaine] "Besides, with that other woman on your mind, you'd probably be an absolute drag on a date."; EBAY SCRIPT page 44 "Rick...! Why are you doing this? Because I remind you of her?"; EBAY SCRIPT page 32 ""Jenny "What was her name?"; [Sam] "Ilse Lund."; EBAY SCRIPT page 33 ""Jenny (of the photo) "She's awful pretty. Do you mind?" [Rick] "No, that's okay." [Jenny] "Well...its okay with me, too. I mean, you should have told me. Hell, I'd have let you call me Ilse."; (and everyone in the script says Jenny Delaney reminds Rick of Ilse Lund). The final movie version as well as the Epstein script refer to the female leading role as "ILSA LUND" (not "ILSE LUND") so my guess is that the script for sale on Ebay is either the lost Kline-Mackenzie script or an early version of the script before the Epstein script; since Humphrey Bogart signed this script in pencil the script for sale on Ebay has to be after February 15, 1942 when Bogart was first cast for the part Rick Blaine. And since he signed it in pencil this is probably the first time Bogart ever saw the Casablanca script and read it to see what his character was like!!!!!!!!!! THE VERY BEGINNING OF THE MOVIE CASABLANCA AND HUMPHREY BOGART'S RELATIONSHIP WITH (IN THE EBAY SCRIPT "ILSE LUND" (BOGART'S GIRLFRIEND IN PARIS WHO HE LOVED VERY MUCH AND NEVER SAW AGAIN) AND IN THE FINAL MOVIE SCRIPT THE "ILSA LUND" CHARACTER ; (ILSA LUND PLAYED BY INGRID BERGMAN IN THE FINAL MOVIE (THE WOMAN BOGART HAD AN AFFAIR WITH IN PARIS BECAUSE SHE THOUGHT HER HUSBAND WAS DEAD AND NOW SHE ARRIVES WITH HER HUSBAND, VICTOR LAZLO, IN CASABLANCA)) .... MOVIE HISTORY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!TO SUMMARIZE: (1)The Play, "Everybody Comes to Rick's," had the characters Rick Blaine, Lois Meredith (as the female lead role, a trampy woman who has an affair with Victor Lazlo but Rick helps her and another man escape Casablanca for Lisbon; Victor Lazlo (minor role); THERE IS NO PARIS FLASHBACK, etc.; (2) the EBAY CASABLANCA SCRIPT has Rick Blaine, a new female lead role, character Jenny Delaney, (an American prostitute who replaces Lois Meredith as the female lead); there is no Victor Lazlo; but a new character, Ilse Lund (who was Rick Blaine's girlfriend in Paris and Jenny reminds him of Ilse Lund (who never appears in the script but is referred to) Rick helps Jenny escape Casablanca to Cairo)(THERE IS NO PARIS FLASHBACK); (3) the final movie has Ilsa Lund (played by Ingrid Bergman) now married to Victor Lazlo (where Rick had an affair with Ilsa Lund in Paris) (WITH A PARIS FLASHBACK) and Rick helps Ilsa Lund and Victor Lazlo escape Casablanca for Lisbon (in the movie both Jenny and Lois Meredith have disappeared, but Ilse Lund has turned into Ingrid Bergman's character, Ilsa Lund.)SEE IMAGES FOR SCRIPT. The first one is from the actual script page 101 of the Book "Casablanca: Behind the Scenes" Harlan Lebo 1992; the other images are from the Ebay script; you can see (1) the same type face; (2) same spacing and indentation; and (3) the same format -- further evidence this is the first script of Casablanca!!!!!!!!!!!NEW UPDATE: I recently read both the Ebay Script (first 40 pages) and the real movie script: the 2 are very different: in the movie script both Bogart and Ingrid Bergman do not appear for the first 30 pages or so; in the Ebay script they are on page one (Bogart and Jenny Delaney); also Ilsa (Bergman is of course alive in the movie script) but there are also wonderful similarities; in the Ebay Script: (1) Bogart tells Sam to stop playing the music that reminds him of Paris!!!! (but Sam is not playing "As Time Goes By" in the Ebay script but "Paris in the Spring" page 24 of Ebay Script); (2) in the Ebay Script the last time Bogart saw Ilse in Paris was at a train station (Rick: "Apparently we got our railroad stations crossed." Ebay Script page 29) !!!! (3) of course there is talk about exit visas and killed German soldiers carrying documents; basically all the characters are the same and the location (Rick's Café) is the same; one can see how the Ebay script was the first draft of the script for the movie CASABLANCA -- MOVIE HISTORY!!! ADDITIONAL CORRECTION: I thought the final movie script named Ingrid Bergman's character "Ilsa Laslo" (so that is what I wrote -- this is WRONG, THE FINAL MOVIE SCRIPT NAMED INGRID BERGMAN'S CHARACTER "ILSA LUND" VERY MUCH LIKE THE SPELLING OF THE "ILSE LUND"CHARACTER IN THE EBAY SCRIPT; THIS ERROR HAS BEEN CORRECTED ABOVE; SO NOW THERE CAN NO DOUBT THAT THIS IS THE FIRST, ORIGINAL SCRIPT OF THE MOVIE CASABLANCA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! WOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!An Ebay viewer indicated that the second TV series 1983 had a "Jenny Delaney" Episode; this probably comes from the Studio files and is similar to this Script, but Bogart died in 1957, his signature is authenticated and the paper is very old so it is clear this script for sale comes from circa early 1942!!!!!LIQUIDATION OF PART OF A LARGE CALIFORNIA ART COLLECTION
